David Armand_colorAuthor of  The Pugilist’s Wife

David Armand teaches Freshman Composition and American Literature at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he also serves as Managing Editor for Louisiana Literature, the university’s nationally-recognized literary journal.  In the first on-line issue of The Double Dealer an excerpt from his recently published debut novel, The Pugilist’s wife, which placed three times in the Faulkner Society’s national literary competition, will be featured. The novel recently won the George Garrett Fiction Prize and was published by Texas Review Press. David had this to say about the competition and Words & Music:

I don’t think I would’ve had the motivation to finish the book had Ms. Grovesnor not chosen it as 2nd runner up a couple of years ago, which enabled me to meet with Pat Walsh, who really gave me the inspiration to finish writing the book. It was a good morning sitting at the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone and talking with Pat about my book. That wouldn’t have happened without the work y’all do.

In 2003 he won the D Vickers Award for Creative Writing. David has written a collection of short stories, Mae’s Blues, and he is currently at work on his second novel, Harlow.

David was born and raised in Louisiana. He has worked as a drywall hanger, a draftsman, and as a press operator in a flag printing factory. He lives in Hammond with his wife, Lucy, their daughter, Lily, and their son, Levi.
