About The Author

Dr. Megan Holt, raised in Muscle Shoals, AL, received a B.A. in English and Spanish from the University of Alabama in 2003 and a Ph.D in English/Comparative Literature from Tulane University in 2013. She currently teaches in the English Department at Tulane University.

Megan also is active in several community literacy projects. She is a project leader for The Young Leadership Council’s One Book One New Orleans annual community-wide read, which this year focused on The Baby Dolls: Breaking the Race and Gender Barriers of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Tradition by Dr. Kim Vaz-Deville. Her profile of Dr. Vaz-Deville appears in the 2015-2016 edition of the Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society’s on literary journal, The Double Dealer

She also is a member of the Board of Directors for the Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans, and a member of the Advisory Board for the Lower Ninth Ward Street Library. Her husband, Jermaine Smith, and their sons, Jefferson and Abel, inspire her to work toward making New Orleans a better place to live.
