Sarah D. Holloway, Ph.D.

Sarah D. Holloway, Ph.D. recently graduated from Pacifica Graduate Institute with her Doctorate in Mythological Studies & Depth Psychology.  Her dissertation explored the Wounded Hero archetype in relation to injured military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and resulted in a puppet production for the children of wounded service members called Hero ‘s Welcome. She plans to create a multidisciplinary, educational curriculum (using characters from Hero ‘s Welcome and including a DVD of the performance) to help children adjust to the challenges of welcoming a wounded parent home from war. Holloway currently is working with counselors, therapists, military family readiness groups, and behavioral health specialists in order to design curriculum for military children and families that is as effective and as accessible as possible.  By offering a universal perspective on war and “woundedness” through multicultural mythology, she hopes to normalize an otherwise isolating and traumatic experience for military families.
